On my run today I saw a bald eagle, perched up on a tree, just chillin. 1. this amazed me because its been a long time since i've seen an eagle, let alone a bald one. although my city is not too large, i think the last time i saw one was in the alaska summer. It reminded me of the verse which says, " They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles." -Isaih 40:31. this verse always reminds me of my friend Steph too, who in wise counsel gave it to me about a year ago in a devotion we went through.
God's been doing quite a bit on my heart recently, and its felt.
I think I am learning to let go of some things. I think when i try to picture what i wanted life at this point to look like, this is where i have to chuckle. my plans were fairly good, its good to have things i was striving after, but i think there is something i am seeing about being content with the right now. Which God is trying to show me. I think I realize that fairly consistently i feel that i havent achieved enough, havent done enough, havent proved myself, and i got tired. Type A personality multiplied. and God said, stop. you're trying too hard.
I think I am starting to see how ironic it is that the title i gave this blog place about a year ago was in reference to a lens. I feel like the lens that I see the world, relationships, and people is continuing to change, often daily. I continue to see how some of the things which were on a high scale were previously ranked soo high, (on first entering the real world outa school) and now those things are moving down the scale, as i keep seeing how its more about the relationships i have with people i spent 4 years with in seattle (2 summers in Alaska), or 2 1/2 in Pasadena, as well as the last year and a half here. That, yes, education has shaped my lens in multifacted ways, yet the experiences have displayed to me the things i want to do, the dumb things i don't want to repeat, and the challenges (exciting ones!) which have been set before me in hopes i have for relationships with my sophmores, with the kiddos i get to see daily or weekly, and my friends and family who are experiencing all different sorts of things. This is what I want my life to be full of, with a little less lens of achievement. Not to say that success and achievement will not be seen in seasons of my life, yet it seems for me that this years season is going to be about the above.
I started reading a book titled Love, which was written by Mother Teresa, ha, (i went all out). I continue to be stilled by her writings. One quote which stuck with me. "We can do no great things-only small things with great love. " holy spononi.
this quote challenges me because it flips my whole context of what it means to be great. it does display that there is importance in the small things, that they are important, as are the things that may be emphasized greatly too, that all of these display love.
